The second phase of the MRT project, which will connect Sarinah on Jl. MH Thamrin with Kampung Bandan in North Jakarta, is scheduled to begin by the end of 2018.
“We will continue [the project] by the end of the year […] The agreement with Japan is final,” MRT president director William Sabandar said on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.
The second phase is a continuation of the the North-South network that begins in Lebak Bulus Depot in South Jakarta. At present the line from Lebak Bulus to the Hotel Indonesia Traffic Circle has reached 96.54 percent completion.
The length of the second phase will be 7.8 kilometers.
“There will be around eight stations, so there will be a station per kilometer,” William said.
The eight stations will be Sarinah Station, Monas Station, Harmoni Station, Sawah Besar Station, Glodok Station, Kota Station and Kampung Bandan Station, which will also function as a depot.
The investment for the second phase is Rp 22.5 trillion (US1.48 billion).
It is a bigger investment compared to the first phase of the project, which only cost Rp 16 trillion for 16 kilometers. William said the larger cost was a result of the fact the majority of the work would take place underground. (gis)
